At Pediatric Associates of Franklin, we want to make sure families clearly understand what is included in a well visit, and when additional charges may apply.

What is a Well Visit?

A well visit is focused on your child’s preventive care. This typically includes:

  • Growth and development checks
  • Routine screenings
  • Vaccinations
  • General health guidance and age-appropriate discussions

Why Might There Be an Additional Charge?

Sometimes, during a well visit, additional concerns are discussed—such as:

  • New symptoms or illnesses
  • Ongoing medical issues
  • Follow-up for previously diagnosed conditions

When this happens, your child’s provider is addressing both:

  1. Preventive care (the well visit)
  2. A problem-focused concern (similar to a sick visit)

Insurance companies require these to be billed separately, even if they are handled during the same appointment.

What This Means for You

If additional concerns are evaluated during your child’s well visit:

  • Your insurance may apply to a copay, deductible, or coinsurance
  • This is determined by your specific insurance plan
  • The charge is not determined by our office, but by how insurance processes combined services

Our Goal

We understand unexpected costs can be frustrating. Our goal is to:

  • Provide the most convenient care for your child in one visit whenever possible
  • Be transparent about how billing works
  • Help you make informed decisions about your child’s care

If you have questions about your coverage or potential costs, please don’t hesitate to ask a member of our team.
